Practicalities

  • Keys & Locking Up

The keys can be found in the main door. In order to enter, the door knocker must be turned to release the latch. The door shutters to the kitchen and living room should be closed and locked in order to secure the house.

  • Storms & Power Outages

During thunderstorms, please unplug any sensitive electrical equipment (e.g. television, computers) as overhead power lines can be struck. Ensure shutters are secure and parasols should not be left on the pool terrace.

  • Garden Games

We welcome you to enjoy the garden games provided. We however ask that they are not left out overnight.

  • Sanitation

We have a septic tank to treats household waste-water and sewage. Once the water has been treated, it drains away into the ground and stream near the property. To ensure the septic tank continues to function well, we kindly ask:

    • As far as possible, kitchen fats & grease should not be washed down the sink, rather decanted and placed in general refuse.

    • Avoid flushing sanitary products (female sanitary products, baby wipes etc) down the toilet.

    • Avoid flushing medicines, particularly antibiotics down the toilet as their purpose is to eliminate bacteria including the useful bacteria in the septic tank.

  • Pool Cover

Solar tubes are used to heat the pool. So that the pool does not lose its temperature overnight, you may wish to use the pool cover.

    To uncover:

    • fold the stair flap over.

    • Slowly wind clockwise

    • Cover with white plastic to protect the pool cover from sun damage.

To cover the pool (with 2 people works best)

    • Use the strap on corner of pool cover to walk to opposite end.

    • Unfold the stair flap.

  • Recycling, Compost and General Refuse

There is a small recycle bin in the kitchen for plastic, paper and cardboard. When it is full it can be emptied into the larger yellow wheelie bin located in the carpark.

Empty bottles should be taken to a bottle depot, located in most supermarkets.

Compost – raw vegetable and fruit scraps can be put in the black compost bin located in the courtyard behind the fountain.

General refuse must be bagged and put in green wheelie bin in the carpark.
