La Montée du Géant Tourmalet, 5 June 2010

Tourmalet Officially Opens

Le Geant starts his climb

Since 1999, 'Le Géant' has waited at the top of the Mythical Col to pay tribute to those who dare to attempt its summit on two wheels.

Each winter Le Geant relinquishes the summit to the skiiers.  But, once the snow clears, he makes his way back up.  For the next 5 months, hundreds will attempt the most notorious of the Tour de France climbs.

Join in and be among the first to climb Tourmalet in 2009!

Saturday morning rendez-vous is at 9am at the Laurent Fignon Centre (the Geant's winter home).  The Geant then starts his climb followed by hundreds of admiring cyclist.

There is a feed station and water for riders on the way.  It's a great atmosphere.

The course is 60km.  Starting at Bagneres de Bigorre, climbing the Tourmalet from the east side, then back down again.  As our accommodation is situated in the valley between the two climbs, you have the option of completing the loop and descending the west side of Tourmalet.
